Alien abduction, mini seedcamp and other stuff…

August 3rd, 2010

For anyone out there following our blog, it may have looked as though we’d been abducted.  Whilst at times it has felt so, we are pleased to say we’re still here and very much alive.

Although not quite in stealth mode, having appeared at events such as Mini Seedcamp, we’ve been tapping away  and getting on with it.  Building our backend monitoring and preparing for our beta launch has kept us busy.  But not satisfied with that, we moved office, just to add to the excitement.

Although we didn’t make it into the next round at Mini seedcamp, we had a good day mixing with some fantastic companies and making some great contacts along the way.  We’d like to wish all those who made it through to the next round and all the other companies the very best of luck.  Also, thank you to all the mentors who offered some good practical advice and put us in contact with some very interesting people.

As mentioned, we have also moved office, sharing space in the heart of the West End.  While the drudgery of the London Tube was not on our hitlist of objectives, we’re sure it will pay dividends in the long term.

We’re currently doing a review of hosting companies for housing our monitoring, so if any nice hosting companies would like to help out, please get in touch…

DBVu pitches at Devnest

March 11th, 2010

Last night (March 10th 2010) Devnest took place at Sun’s Customer Briefing Centre near London Bridge.

There were some interesting talks (with a Twitter bent as it’s really Twitter Devnest) including a talk by Ewan MacLeod on the state of mobile and development, Gary Gale (Yahoo Geo guru) on WOEIDs and then Paul Kinlan talked about Google Buzz.

Steve from DBVu did a 140 second pitch to explain what DBVu was all about.

Ewan did a nice write-up at Mobile Industry Review.

Of note there’s a new Twitter hackathon happening on the 8/9th May at the Guardian called Warblecamp and unlike Chirp it’s completely free including food and drink.

DBVu is sponsoring Where Camp EU

March 1st, 2010

Where Camp EU the geo unconference for Europe.

This is a 2 day event taking place on Fri 12th March at Wallacespace in Duke ST and then at the Guardian’s offices near Kings Cross on the Saturday.

There’s a good collection of people going and should make an interesting un-conference.

DBVu is very happy to be involved and sponsoring the event.

DBVu joins Microsoft Bizspark

February 26th, 2010

Microsoft’s Bizspark program is specifically geared towards start-ups and provides access to a wide range of Microsoft software and services (for free).

It’s a great program and any start-up should seriously consider joining.

We’d especially like to thank Bindi Karia from Microsoft UK for getting us on the program.
